Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Chris Tanev was not supposed to play tonight but the Florida Panthers are so good that the team is now reconsidering.
Chris Tanev got injured against the Boston Bruins on February 25th and the Toronto Maple Leafs have been missing him ever since.
Overall, the defenseman has been one of the best players on the entire team and he deserves all of the flowers he has been getting throughout the season.
Yesterday, it was reported that yet again, Tanev would be out of the lineup as the Maple Leafs take on a formidable foe in the Florida Panthers.
Chris Tanev to play against the Florida Panthers?
The Leafs are two points back of the Panthers for first in the Atlantic Division with a game in hand which means a win in regulation tonight would give the team the top spot.
With that being said, the team could use all of the firepower possible in this matchup and that means considering Chris Tanev's return to the lineup.
Well, according to Mark Masters, the Leafs are considering the defenseman to be a game-time decision which means there is a very good chance he comes back.
After all, Tanev is an incredible shot-blocker and he is a shutdown guy who is consistently proving to be the best defenseman on the team and yes, we put him over Morgan Rielly.
Obviously, the Leafs cannot let Tanev hurt himself all over again, which makes playing him tonight a bit of a risk, albeit a calculated one.
A win tonight means two wins in a row which means some momentum here as the season begins to wind down.
This is where the division will be won or lost and a favorable playoff matchup hangs in the balance.
The game will be a fascinating one and we hope to see Chris Tanev on the ice in front of a home crowd.
