With the 4 Nations Face-Off upon us, Brad Treliving has a lot of work to do and it appears as though an NCAA superstar is on his lengthy to-do list.
Of course, his team is currently on a break for the 4 Nations Face-Off, but that does not mean that his job has slowed down at all.
According to a new report from Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, the Maple Leafs are currently linked to NCAA forward
Luke Haymes of Dartmouth College.
The young star is 21 years old and had 36 points in 31 games last season. He has started this season with 10 points in 12 games and is being highly touted by teams around the NHL.
"Towards the end of last week, somebody put him on my radar... I've heard a few teams are starting to ask about when they can talk to him and I think it's some of the heavy-hitters. I think Toronto is one of them. I've heard the Maple Leafs are interested."
Interestingly enough, Haymes attended Maple Leafs development camp in 2023 so the franchise certainly knows of him already.
The Tampa Bay Lightning may also be interested as Haymes attended their camp in 2024.
Whatever the case may be, the Leafs want to build out their talent pool, even if some of these young guys may not make the roster right away.
It is a smart move from Brad Treliving, who understands he cannot have the core four around forever. At some point, you have to bring in some fresh talent.
Hopefully, the Maple Leafs continue to do their due diligence and Haymes eventually realizes his dream of making the NHL.
