Toronto Maple Leafs goalie Dennis Hildeby was starting to make fans concerned as he remained a Restricted Free Agent through the summer.
Dennis Hildeby is a goaltender who remains intriguing for the Toronto Maple Leafs. While he wasn't sensational in his starts last season, he did show some promise.
After all, the last thing the Leafs needed was another Nick Robertson situation. Goaltending is the most important position, and you want a solid third-stringer to back up
Anthony Stolarz and
Joseph Woll.
Dennis Hildeby has yet to sign with the Toronto Maple Leafs
Well, today, the Toronto Maple Leafs and their fans got some splendid news as it pertains to Hildeby.
The goaltender officially signed a three-year extension with the team, which means he won't be going anywhere, at least not anytime soon.
This puts an end to the restricted free agent saga that had many biting their nails throughout the summer. Overall, this is some great news to start the week.
Whether or not Hildeby gets any NHL starts this season, still remains to be seen. It will ultimately depend on whether or not Woll and Stolarz can stay healthy.
Regardless, another season with the Toronto Marlies won't hurt his development. Instead, it will make him that much better.
Overall, the more goalies you have, the better. Hildeby struggled at times last season, but he still has what it takes to be a solid NHLer.
There is a scenario in which he becomes the future starting goaltender for the Leafs franchise, and this contract will give him some insurance.
