Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving has a ton of trade deadline targets, although one of them has the hosts on TSN Overdrive feeling a bit conflicted.
Toronto Maple Leafs trade deadline rumors
Overall, Treliving is trying to acquire a third line center and Schenn is the perfect player to fill that role given his 12 goals and 36 points this season.
However, the cost to acquire Schenn is quite high as reports suggest that the Maple Leafs general manager would have to give up a first or second round pick, as well as
Fraser Minten or
Easton Cowan.
During a segment on TSN Ovedrive, Jeff O'Neill and Bryan Hayes had a stark warning for Treliving, noting that this price is just way too high for a third-line center.
Although
Schenn would be a fantastic addition to this team, the TSN Overdrive panel feels as though the cost is too astronomical when you consider what you're getting in return.
O'Neill even made the argument that back in the day, those kinds of assets would net you a star-level talent like Jaromir Jagr.
If the Blues are sellers and the Maple Leafs are desperate to buy, then there is no doubt the former is going to up the price on Schenn to ridiculous levels.
It is going to be up to Treliving to navigate this situation and make sure he doesn't put the team in a bad situation going forward.
That said, this is the closest the Leafs have had to a Stanley Cup contending team in a while and if there was ever a time to make roster improvements, it would be right about now.
