Tragic Start to Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames game
According to new details first reported by
Blade of Steel, the first-hand accounts of what happened are extremely disturbing and we cannot imagine what those who saw it go down must be thinking.
It would appear as though the fan suffered a cardiac episode and fell down a flight of stairs, leading to increased injuries,
"We didn't see anything.
The Oilers had just been given a penalty and before the faceoff, the coaches rushed toward a fan who was apparently descending the stairs and suffered an apparent heart attack.
He was taken by ambulance after receiving CPR."
There was a lot of praise for the medical staff in the arena and for very good reason.
Some other first-hand accounts provided a very similar account of what happened, and there is no doubt that it was very hard to watch for everyone involved.
"I'm at the game and it wasn't pretty to see, the fan had a medical episode and fell 18 to 20 rows before someone could stop him..
The Oilers' training staff or doctor was on the scene immediately."
Our heart goes out to the fan who was affected and we hope he is able to make it through this horrible event.
We also want to commend the Edmonton Oilers organization for providing such amazing medical care during this event.
