Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube has had to fix the power play this season and it appears as though the work has finally started to pay off.
At the start of this season,
Toronto Maple Leafs fans were calling for the firing of Marc Savard as the team's power play was absolutely abysmal.
Despite shaky ground for the five-forward PP strategy, the team has stayed the course and now that persistence is starting to pay real dividends.
Toronto Maple Leafs power play gets better
According to analyst Mike Kelly, the Maple Leafs have the best power play in the league since the trade deadline, and this is something to be very proud of.
Since the NHL trade deadline, the Leafs' 5-forward power play has been the most productive in the entire NHL, with 8 goals in just under 19 minutes of ice time and a goals per 20 of 8.5.
Pretty remarkable considering how poor the PP was at the beginning of the season.
Special teams are going to be very important when the playoffs roll around and fans are very excited to see what the Leafs can do.
They are tied for first in the Atlantic Division and it really does seem like the team has a shot at winning it.
If the playoffs were to start today, they would play the Ottawa Senators which would be absolutely fantastic and we can't help but hope it happens.
Hopefully, the Maple Leafs continue their dominance on the power play and finish out the season with a bang.
