Alex Formenton was part of the Hockey Canada trial, and now that he has been acquitted, he has decided to continue his hockey career after a brief stint away.
The Hockey Canada five trial has officially concluded, and with all five players being acquitted of sexual assault, there has been a lot of speculation about what is going to happen next.
None of these players has been cleared to return to the NHL, as they must first apply for reinstatement. For now, it is unclear who will do so.
One of the players involved,
Alex Formenton, has been spending the last year or so as a construction worker. However, it appears as though he has found something else to do.
Alex Formenton is going back to Switzerland
Well, we now have word that Formenton has signed a 3.5-month deal with HC Ambri-Piotta of the Swiss-A league. This is where he played for two seasons before taking a hiatus from hockey.
Now that Formenton wants to return to the sport, one has to wonder if this is going to lead to some sort of reinstatement proposal.
One of the players that many are watching out for right now is none other than Carter Hart, who could certainly be a good goaltender on a contending team.
Although the players from this trial are controversial, signing them would be a huge risk. Most teams wouldn't see it as a worthy investment.
The coming weeks should be interesting, as this will tell us whether or not guys like Hart will attempt to get back into the league for the start of the season.
If one thing is for certain, there are a lot of fans out there who would prefer to never see these guys in the NHL, ever again.
