Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Anthony Stolarz has a new contract with the team, and as it turns out, he will have to get to work on a pretty massive no-trade list.
Now, the Leafs get to keep their star goalie long-term. They no longer have to worry about their goaltending tandem, which also includes
Joseph Woll.
Having said that, at the time of the deal, we didn't know all of the tiny specifics that were being figured out behind the scenes. Now, there seems to be some clarity.
Anthony Stolarz has a no-trade clause
Below, you can see the entire breakdown of the deal. As you will notice, throughout all four seasons, the Maple Leafs went heavy with the signing bonuses.
Meanwhile, the team also decided to give Stolarz a no-trade clause. However, the trade clause is limited. For instance, in the first season, Stolarz must provide a 16-team list.
Furthermore, the next two seasons will be 10 teams, and the final season is just five teams. This provides the Leafs with some protection.
As part of his new contract, Anthony Stolarz has a 16-team no-trade clause in Year 1 of his extension. It changes to a 10-team list in Years 2 and 3, and then a 5-team list in Year 4.
Full deal:
🔹 Year 1: $850K base, $4.225M bonus
🔹 Year 2: $900K base, $2.91M SB
🔹 Year 3: $1.07M base, $2M SB
🔹 Year 4: $1.045M base, $2M SB
Ultimately, this was a great deal for both sides, and it feels like Stolarz is very happy with his decision to remain a member of Leafs Nation.
Only time will tell whether or not the goaltender can be as good as he was last season.
If he is, then the Maple Leafs have a real shot at potentially winning the Stanley Cup for the first time in 58 years.
