Brad Treliving Receives Devastating News From the NHL Just Weeks Before Free Agency

Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving has a tough road ahead of him with free agency on the horizon, and the NHL is not making things any easier on him.
A new discourse has been shaping the NHL as of late, and it surrounds the fact that teams in specific locations have particular tax advantages when attracting players.
Florida has no state tax, and a Florida team has been to the Stanley Cup Finals in six straight seasons. Teams from Texas and Las Vegas have also made the Stanley Cup Finals, which further demonstrates the point.
That said, some don't think this is actually an issue. Instead, they believe the teams that aren't winning are simply jealous of the teams that are.
Toronto Maple Leafs and the no-tax dilemma
As it turns out, Treliving will not be getting any relief anytime soon. According to Bill Daly, the tax problem will not be sorted out in the next CBA.
Bill Daly says the NHL won't address the state income tax issue that some clubs have raised with any rule changes included in the next collective bargaining agreement.
Agent Allan Walsh believes this debate is nonsense, stating that players can circumvent all of this with a good financial advisor.
I'm shocked at how uninformed this take is-
1. Players in Canada can set up a Retirement Compensation Agreement (RCA) and limit their tax liability to a flat 20%. With sound tax advisors, a NHL player can actually pay the same or less tax in Canada than he will Florida or Vegas.
On the flip side, journalist Matt Larkin is firm on his position that the reast Conference Finalists are proof that having no state tax is an unfair advantage with the flat cap.
Doubling down just so people understand I'm not picking on the Panthers.
18.75% of NHL teams (six in total) play in markets without state income tax.
Those six teams have earned 62.75% of the Conference Final berths since 2020.
At the end of the day, teams just have to go out there and win. The Edmonton Oilers can win the Stanley Cup this season, and they are a Canadian team.
The solution is always getting better instead of making up some excuses.
