Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving has been hard at work for this team and with the playoffs on the horizon, there is a new vision for the team.
Furthermore, this franchise has not had playoff success in years and he is being tasked with taking this team to the promised land.
With the playoffs 15 games away, there is a clear goal for this franchise, and it may not be what you think.
Brad Treliving on the goals of the Toronto Maple Leafs
Essentially, in the heat of the battle for the Atlantic Division lead, Treliving is acknowledging that regardless of their seed, they are going to play a very good team.
Consequently, the goal right now is to get the team's play in order and not necessarily worry about who their matchup is going to be.
«We want to finish as high as we can Starting to get into trying to pick opponents, every team is going to be a difficult matchup. We just have to get ourselves there first. That is our focus.
I don't care where you finish, you are playing a really good team (in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs). Getting your game in order and making sure you are playing the very best you can when it matters the most-that's the most important thing for us.»
This is definitely a good mentality to have right now considering no matter what, they are going to be in for a tough fight.
As it stands, the two Wild Card teams are the Ottawa Senators and the Montreal Canadiens who are going to be some tough outs moving forward.
Only time will tell whether or not the Leafs are able to have some success as the playoffs get closer and closer.
The fans would love a bit of playoff success these days but of course, it is going to be very difficult with so many good teams hanging around.
