Brendan Shanahan's Future with the Toronto Maple Leafs Gets a Massive Update

Toronto Maple Leafs president Brendan Shanahan doesn't have a contract at the end of this season and there are rumors of what Keith Pelley will do.
Brendan Shanahan has been with the Toronto Maple Leafs for about 11 years now and while he has had great regular season success, the playoffs have been a different story.
The team just has one playoff series win during his tenure and there is a real fear that the team will experience the same fate this year.
Shanahan doesn't have a contract beyond this season and there are now rumblings of what will happen to him if the team loses again.
Is Brendan Shanahan staying with the Toronto Maple Leafs?
According to Luke Fox of Sportsnet, a decision on Shanahan might actually be made very soon.
The logic here is the MLSE CEO Keith Pelley has made it clear that he will make a big change if necessary. Moreover, the lack of playoff success would motivate the Leafs to want to move on.
"One playoff series victory over an 11-season tenure as the top executive," Fox wrote. "Even a Hall of Fame player like Shanahan would have a hard time surviving that one, particularly now that he has a boss with a face and a name: CEO Keith Pelley, who rolled back into town talking about winning. If - big if - the Leafs do bow out early again, we'll give it six or seven days. And we'll wonder (a) if Pelley eliminates the middle-man position between himself and Treliving altogether, and (b) if Shanahan makes his way back to the New York area for his next job in hockey."
If the Leafs were to make the Eastern Conference Finals, then it is safe to say that Shanahan would get to keep his job.
Some sort of improvement on the last 10 years is necessary right about now. While the team is looking very solid, there is no telling what happens once the postseason hits.
The Leafs are known to choke, and that would be a disastrous scenario to have play out, especially against the Ottawa Senators in the first round.
Hopefully, the Leafs match the expectations and Shanahan gets to keep his job for the next few years.
