Cayden Primeau has not been particularly good for the Toronto Maple Leafs, and when it comes to Anthony Stolarz, he has also struggled at times this season.
Toronto Maple Leafs goaltenders Cayden Primeau and
Anthony Stolarz have struggled at times this season, although one of these is a surprise.
The expectation was that Stolarz would be back in the Vezina conversation this year, especially since he would be getting a hefty amount of starts to begin the season.
Unfortunately, he has struggled at times with a goals-against average of 3.13 and a save percentage of .893.
As for Primeau, he allowed six goals on 25 shots against the Columbus Blue Jackets, which had some Leafs fans calling for him to be released.
Cayden Primeau and Anthony Stolarz are being lit up
Based on a new advanced stat, it would appear as though Primeau and Stolarz are actually among the worst goaltenders in the league to start the season.
For instance, Primeau is the fourth-worst goalie when ranked by Goals-Above-Expected. In the same category, Stolarz is ranked 13th-worst.
This is not a good place to be if you are the Leafs, as you need your goaltenders to be playing their best hockey all throughout the season.
Of course, Stolarz had a good game last night, and this could be the start of a nice run for the once-struggling netminder.
Meanwhile, Primeau will be replaced as soon as
Joseph Woll comes back from his leave of absence, which should be very soon.
Overall, the Leafs will be just fine. But when you see statistics like that, you do begin to worry whether or not this team has the juice.
