Darren Dreger delivers harsh truth about Chris Tanev that goes beyond just injuries

Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Chris Tanev is currently out with a concussion, although according to Darren Dreger, Tanev has bigger issues than injuries.
Chris Tanev is currently out of the Toronto Maple Leafs lineup after suffering his second concussion of the NHL season so far.
Overall, this was a disastrous injury for the Maple Leafs, especially when you consider how Tanev has quickly become the best shutdown defenseman on the team.
He is responsible on his own end, and while he won't get you a ton of points, he will make sure that pucks are staying out of the net.
However, as Darren Dreger of TSN points out, it's not all sunshine and rainbows when it comes to Tanev and the Leafs.
Chris Tanev has had problems this season
While on TSN 1050 this morning, Dreger said that Tanev has been "sagging at times" this season, and that Tanev won't solve all of their problems.
Simply put, Dreger believes the Maple Leafs are going to have to do a lot more than hope for Tanev to come back. It's a harsh reality, but one they must listen to.
Not to pile on injured guys, but as much as I love Chris Tanev's game and how he's played since breaking into the league, he was sagging at times before two series of injuries. That's a significant loss because his approach to the game is what Toronto needs more of, both up front and on the back end.
But some of the issues plaguing this team were also visible when Chris Tanev was in the lineup. So it's not going to be as simple as that. When he comes back, it's not just, 'Here's a good, smart shutdown defenseman who'll get the puck out of trouble.' There has to be a lot more to it than what we've seen.

If you are a fan of the Maple Leafs, you are probably deeply concerned about what the team looks like these days.
They just lost two games in a row, and the defense continues to look terrible. If they don't clean it up, they won't make the playoffs.
On Tuesday, the Leafs will have an opportunity to turn the tide against the Boston Bruins.
