Elliotte Friedman Takes a Huge and Unnecessary Shot at Auston Matthews

Last night's Stanley Cup Finals Game 1 between the Florida Panthers and the Edmonton Oilers had Elliotte Friedman roasting Auston Matthews and the Leafs.
After knocking off the Toronto Maple Leafs in the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the Florida Panthers have found themselves in their third-straight Finals.
For the second year in a row, they are playing against the Edmonton Oilers, and unlike last year, they won't be starting things off with a 3-0 lead.
The Oilers won in overtime last night thanks to a goal from Leon Draisaitl, which was set up by his superstar teammate, Connor McDavid.
Auston Matthews catches a stray from Elliotte Friedman
Sportsnet's resident NHL insider Elliotte Friedman was amped up after the game and was clearly very impressed with what he had just seen.
However, his comments on social media can certainly be interpreted as a dig at Toronto Maple Leafs superstar Auston Matthews. When you see his tweet, you will understand why.
Great Game 1 - no passengers on either side
After a Game 7 loss to the Florida Panthers in the second round, Matthews infamously deflected all of the blame and said the team had too many passengers.
These were disgusting comments for a captain to make, and in the eyes of many Leafs fans, they were absolutely unacceptable. Comments that could get your captaincy taken away, quite frankly.
Either way, there is a reason why the Toronto Maple Leafs are not in the Stanley Cup Finals, and the Florida Panthers are. The Panthers are just a cut above the rest of the league.
Only time will tell whether or not the Oilers can hold down the fort and finish this series off to bring Canada its first Stanley Cup since 1993.
