Former Maple Leaf Alex Galchenyuk is in the Midst of Yet Another Controversy
Former Toronto Maple Leafs forward Alex Galchenyuk is currently making headlines in the KHL, and they are not for the best of reasons.
Alex Galchenyuk is a former NHL star who had a ton of promise during his days with the Montreal Canadiens. Back in 2015-16, he even managed to score 30 goals.
Unfortunately, things took a turn for the worse as behavioral problems plagued his career. His effort was brought into question, and the Habs moved on.
A few years ago, the Leafs brought in Galchenyuk for just 26 games. During this time, the forward had 12 points, but he simply wasn't what the team needed.
The forward has since gone to the KHL, and just last year, he went viral for a horrific police cam video in which he was making threats in the back of a police cruiser.
Alex Galchenyuk named captain of Amur Khabarovsk
Last season, Galchenyuk joined Amur Khabarovsk of the KHL and had 38 points in 59 games. Just recently, he was named captain of the team.
However, according to a
Russian publication, Galchenyuk's captaincy is the result of some pretty blatant nepotism. They say that because his father was named the head coach of the team.
While Galchenyuk is probably one of the best and most experienced players on his team, this does feel like a wild case of nepotism, all things considered.
The forward has been in trouble a lot over the past few years and doesn't exactly have a ton of leadership skills.
With that in mind, it feels like this captaincy could go bad, very fast. We wish him luck, but for now, we are incredibly skeptical.
If one thing is for certain, it is that his season is going to be interesting to watch.
