It's Official for Ben Danford and the Toronto Maple Leafs

On Monday evening, the Toronto Maple Leafs unveiled their opening lineup against the Montreal Canadiens, and as you can imagine, it was missing Ben Danford.
Training camp was an interesting time for the Toronto Maple Leafs, as we got to see a ton of young players in action. Many of them were impressive, including defenseman Ben Danford.
The 31st overall pick in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft had a solid training camp, and in a preseason appearance against the Ottawa Senators, he was a complete stud.
While he was not expected to make the team, the Leafs kept him around training camp until the very end. Every day, fans expected him to get cut. Instead, his time was extended.
Yesterday at 5 PM, the Maple Leafs had to submit their opening night roster to the league office. Unfortunately, for Danford, this was the moment when he finally got cut.
Ben Danford goes back to the Oshawa Generals
As stated by Leafs Latest and the team's PR account on X, Ben Danford was sent back down to the Oshawa Generals of the OHL. He was captain of the team last season, and not much has changed.
However, there are some trade rumors involving the defenseman right now, and we wonder whether or not he will be on the move imminently now that his Leafs fate has been sorted.
Either way, Ben Danford impressed head coach Craig Berube during training camp, and that will go a long way in the defenseman making the team in the future.
If you are a Toronto Maple Leafs fan, you cannot help but be excited about the defenseman's future with the team.
Monday also turned out to be unlucky for forward Easton Cowan, who was sent down to the Toronto Marlies due to cap space issues.
Only time will tell whether or not Cowan and Danford can be part of the Maple Leafs' core for years to come.
