Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner spoke to reporter Jonas Siegel about his contract extension and as you can imagine, he gave half answers.
Mitch Marner and the Toronto Maple Leafs have a lot to discuss in the offseason as the superstar forward is in the market for the biggest contract of his life.
Overall, the forward could very well make over $100 million and some think he might make more than $13 million per season which would be a lot for the Leafs to take on.
However, he is also on pace for a 100-point season which means the Leafs are being put in a position where they will likely have to pay a pretty penny.
Mitch Marner gets candid about a contract extension
In a new piece from Jonas Siegel of The Athletic, Marner actually spoke at length about his situation and how he is feeling about things.
He even addressed not waiving his no-trade clause even though he was given the opportunity to.
With contract talks stalled and free agency looming, Mitch Marner's future in Toronto is unclear. He declined to waive his no-movement clause after the Leafs explored trading him before the deadline.

As for when he will sign a contract extension, he actually revealed a timeline. Well...kinda sorta. Instead, he gave us more of a proverb, but it does seem like he wants to remain in Toronto.
Pressed on why he hasn't signed an extension, he didn't reveal much.

The Toronto Maple Leafs will want to see something strong out of Mitch Marner come playoff time.
If not, then they will have to really reckon with whether or not they should just let the forward walk. It would be a tough decision, but not an unprecedented one.
