Morgan Rielly & Nick Robertson Trade for Erik Karlsson in Epic Trade Proposal

Erik Karlsson is reportedly on the trading block, and with the Toronto Maple Leafs shopping Nick Robertson, perhaps something could get done very soon.
The Toronto Maple Leafs are a team that could benefit from some big moves right now, especially since the team still has some big needs to fill.
For instance, they need a top-six forward, and they need a defenseman who can carry a bit of offense at even strength and while on the power play.
Unfortunately, for the Maple Leafs, both of these things require some pretty huge sacrifices. A trade would have to include more than just one roster player.

On a new episode of 'Leafs Morning Take,' a fan suggested that the Maple Leafs should trade defenseman Morgan Rielly and forward Nick Robertson for Erik Karlsson of the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Jay Rosehill immediately explained why this is actually a great idea. After all, Robertson doesn't have a spot right now, while Rielly is in a decline.
While Karlsson is also aging fast, there is no denying that he is a better player than Rielly at this very moment.
I take that all day. We're trying to get rid of Nick Robertson in general, where does he fit? Whose spot is he taking? I just don't think he's going to be here, and Morgan Rielly has stalled. Makes $7.5-million, doesn't produce like he used to; sometimes has some brain-dead stuff going on in the D-zone. Not trying to knock him but he's not the player he used to be in the past.
To get the upside of Erik Karlsson, and someone who can quarterback a PP and run the offense like Karlsson has done in the past, all his accomplishments he would be great, but I don't think anyone is really going to take that trade.

At the end of the day, general manager Brad Treliving probably won't make this move, especially since it was a fan creating the proposal.
Having said that, the Leafs need to take some big swings soon, and the fans would love to see something involving a defenseman like Karlsson.
Only time will tell whether or not the Maple Leafs make it happen.
