NHL Analyst Makes Shocking Claim About John Tavares' Next Salary With the Maple Leafs

When it comes to the Toronto Maple Leafs, there is no doubt that Paul Bissonnette is a bit of a fanatic, for better or for worse.

Now that Mitch Marner, John Tavares, and Matthew Knies are free agents, Biz has been freaking out a little bit, and he is desperate for the team to run it all back.

However, that is going to take a herculean effort from Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving, who has to deal with the personal desires of the players, and not just their salaries.

On X this past week, Bissonnette said the Leafs should give Marner eight years and $12 million per season. Meanwhile, Matthew Knies should also get eight years and $8.5 million per season.

As for John Tavares, Paul Bissonnette thinks it would be appropriate for Tavares to only get an AAV of $3 million for three seasons.

While all of these proposed contracts are absolute Looney Tunes material, the Tavares contract is particularly bad.

Sure, it is great for the Leafs, but Tavares just scored 38 goals and 74 points. He will be 35 years old next season, but he is still producing at a solid clip.

He would simply never go for a contract that undervalues him this harshly. Even if the Leafs try, they will likely have to pay Tavares between $5 and $6 million per season.

Needless to say, never make Paul Bissonnette an NHL GM. He would do a terrible job.
