NHL Insider Drops Bombshell About Brad Marchand & Sam Bennett Signing in Toronto

The Toronto Maple Leafs are going to be active in free agency, with Brad Marchand and Sam Bennett being among their most high-profile targets.
Brad Marchand and Sam Bennett are currently in the midst of a deep playoff run with the Florida Panthers. In fact, they are three games away from winning the Stanley Cup.
However, there is a lot of discourse surrounding these two players as it pertains to their free agency plans. They both need new contracts, and there is a sense that they will both leave the Panthers.
The Toronto Maple Leafs are looking to swoop in here and make a big splash, especially with Mitch Marner looking to leave the franchise on July 1st.
Sam Bennett or Brad Marchand?
In a new report from Nick Kypreos, it seems like the Leafs are more likely to bring in Brad Marchand than someone like Sam Bennett.
Kypreos believes that the best fit for Marchand right now is on the wing with Auston Matthews. As for Sam Bennett, it would appear as though he may just go elsewhere.
According to Sportsnet's Nick Kypreos, it's seen as «more realistic» that the Leafs could end up signing Brad Marchand - who could slot in on Auston Matthews' wing - rather than bringing in Sam Bennett.
The report from Kypreos is consistent with some other reporting we have seen involving the Toronto Maple Leafs and Brad Marchand. In fact, some of it comes from Marchand's own mouth.
Marchand has stated he's going to «listen to anything. (We'll) deal with it when the time comes, and we'll see what the right fit is,» when asked about potentially playing for a Canadian team next season.
Whether or not Marchand comes to the Leafs still remains to be seen. However, some fans would find that to be a complete betrayal, on both sides.
Free agency officially begins on July 1st, and there is no doubt that all eyes will be on the Maple Leafs throughout the summer.
