Nick Kypreos Adds New Layer to the Toronto Maple Leafs' Pursuit of Nazem Kadri

NHL insider Nick Kypreos is someone who certainly knows his way around the league, and recently, he has been delivering some interesting reporting on Nazem Kadri.
Nazem Kadri is one of those players that Toronto Maple Leafs fans have been mourning for years at this point.
Overall, there is a large portion of the Maple Leafs fanbase that would love for the center to come back to the team and finish his career in Toronto.
Recently, there have been numerous trade rumors involving Kadri, and this has subsequently led to discourse about whether or not the Calgary Flames would trade him.
Nazem Kadri to the Toronto Maple Leafs is a pipe dream
Nick Kypreos is one of the reporters who has been heavy on the Kadri beat as of late, and he has repeatedly said the Maple Leafs and the Canadiens would be the two best trade candidates.
However, he recently stated how the Flames have not received a trade request from Kadri. What's more is that the Flames would trade Kadri for the right price. Unfortunately, the Leafs don't have the assets.
Kadri has not asked to be traded, Calgary has not approached him; you can't tell me that Calgary's not contemplating it or at least understanding the marketplace; if the price is right Kadri could be had
Overall, Kadri is someone who is coming off a 35-goal season with the Flames. As a result, he is at peak value. This is not good for the Leafs, who don't have draft capital or any young prospects with first-line potential.
At this point, the Leafs cannot trade for much these days. General manager Brad Treliving has been looking for offseason deals, but nothing much has materialized outside of the bottom-six.
Fans are hoping for this to change, but at this moment, the market is thinning out, and the Leafs will have to lower their expectation.
A second-line center would be nice, but if they have to settle for John Tavares, that's fine too.
