Toronto Maple Leafs forward Nick Robertson recently signed a new deal, and it seems like the Pittsburgh Penguins are interested in bringing him in.
Nick Robertson and the Toronto Maple Leafs recently agreed on a new deal that will keep the forward on the team for one more season at a price of $1.825 million.
Having said that, there have been all sorts of rumors concerning the forward, and whether or not the Toronto Maple Leafs will trade him to a team in need.
Nick Robertson to the Pittsburgh Penguins?
In a new report from Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, it was revealed that the Pittsburgh Penguins and their general manager, Kyle Dubas, are very interested in Robertson.
There is some history there, and everyone knows the Leafs need to clear out some bottom-six guys. Furthermore, with the Leafs looking at Bryan Rust, a deal could be on the horizon.
I had a couple of people ask me about the possibility of Nick Robertson and Pittsburgh, just because Kyle Dubas knows him. The Maple Leafs have to clear some bodies there, they've got a lot of them...
Ultimately, there is no telling whether or not the Leafs are actually going to make a move anytime soon. However, the fans are definitely clamoring for it.
Robertson is making too much money right now, and it seems unlikely that the Leafs would want to keep that kind of contract on their books.
If the Leafs could flip him for a top-line guy, or even some draft picks, that would be huge for the franchise going forward.
The Maple Leafs still have a long offseason ahead, and it will be fascinating to see how general manager Brad Treliving is able to manage all of this.
