Nikita Grebenkin was a fan-favorite during his brief time with the Toronto Maple Leafs as he had a great attitude and very clearly wanted to be the best player possible.
Nikita Grebenkin loses out on Philadelphia Flyers debut
It seemed like that was all going to change over the weekend as Grebenkin was called up by the Philadelphia Flyers due to a plethora of injuries.
However, just 30 minutes later, it was revealed that Grebenkin had been sent back down immediately as some of the injured Flyers were good to go.
Overall, it was a very bizarre sequence of events and you have to feel for the kid who just wants to go out and prove what he can do at the NHL level.
In seven games with the Maple Leafs this season, Grebenkin failed to register a single point. However, he did have some big hits and proved he can keep up physically with the top level guys.
In 39 games with the Toronto Marlies, he had 21 points and in nine games with the
Lehigh Valley Phantoms, he has scored five points.
While his ceiling is the third-line, he could still make an impact on an NHL roster and he still has a lot of developing to do. We just hope the Philadelphia Flyers give him a chance.
Only time will tell whether or not Philadelphia proves to be a long-term home for Nikita Grebenkin or if he will end up on the move again sometime soon.
