While the Toronto Maple Leads traded with the Chicago Blackhawks for Jake McCabe in 2023, it seems as though the terms are now complete.
Just a couple of seasons ago, the Toronto Maple Leafs made a trade that would bring defenseman
Jake McCabe to the city.
He had been previously playing for the Chicago Blackhawks, a team on the decline. The Leafs needed to bolster their blue line and it made sense to bring him in.
McCabe has since become a stud for the Maple Leafs and there is no doubt that the fanbase absolutely loves and adores him.
However, the terms of the trade had yet to be completed as there was a conditional first-round pick in there that would be active for 2025.

The trade was McCabe for
Joey Anderson, Pavel Gogolev, a conditional first-round pick in 2025, and a second-round pick in 2026.
For the first-round pick, the main condition was that if the Leafs were projected to be a top 10 pick, then the selection would be put back to 2026. This was done to protect the Leafs.
However, as we all know by now, the Leafs are having a wonderful season where they may just win the Atlantic Division. As a result, the Leafs will draft outside of the Top 10, thus giving the Blackhawks the pick this season.
This is great news for both Toronto and the Blackhawks, who can now wipe their hands of this deal.
Hopefully, he continues to kill it. As for the Chicago Blackhawks, they will be hopeful that this draft pick materializes into a player of the future.
