Toronto Maple Leafs Missed Out on Blockbuster Mitch Marner & Jason Robertson Trade

Former Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner ended up with the Las Vegas Golden Knights; however, he could have ended up with the Dallas Stars.
Mitch Marner's demise with the Toronto Maple Leafs was something that fans were waiting for, as his playoff performances simply weren't up to snuff.
Furthermore, it was becoming clearer and clearer that Marner's outside influences were becoming a nuisance for the franchise as a whole.
As soon as the offseason began, the Maple Leafs did a sign and trade with Mitch Marner, which sent him to the Las Vegas Golden Knights for Nicolas Roy.
However, as it turns out, there were some other options that the Leafs could have explored, and one of them involved none other than Jason Robertson.
Mitch Marner for Jason Robertson?
Earlier, we reported on how the Maple Leafs could trade for Robertson, but it would cost them a pretty penny.
Now, Sean Shapiro reports that there was a world in which Robertson was traded for Mitch Marner. Unfortunately, for the Leafs, this did not happen.
We know that Dallas had kicked around the idea of going after Mitch Marner; if they were going to get Marner, that amount of money...would have had to come from somewhere
This is the kind of scenario that would have benefitted the Maple Leafs greatly. Unfortunately, it was just never able to come to fruition.
As for a Jason Robertson trade going forward, don't expect it anytime soon. The Maple Leafs simply do not have the assets to make something like that happen.
The Leafs will simply have to look elsewhere for their next top-six forward star.
