Toronto Maple Leafs Reporter Argues Why Matthew Knies Won't Get an Offer Sheet

Toronto Maple Leafs forward Matthew Knies will hit free agency this summer and there is a high risk that he will be hit with an offer sheet by a rival team.
Matthew Knies has been sensational for the Toronto Maple Leafs this season with 25 goals and 49 points to his name.
Knies is a restricted free agent which means the only way he could leave is through an offer sheet that he would have to accept on his end. It is an anxiety-inducing situation that the Leafs must reckon with.
Matthew Knies offer sheet chances
While the offer sheet noise ramps up, there are some analysts and reporters who just don't see it happening as Knies is focused on the playoffs.
In fact, Nick Alberga believes that Matthew Knies loves the Maple Leafs franchise too much and that he would never accept an offer sheet from another team.
It's very unlikely Matthew Knies gets offer-sheeted this summer. There's no question he wants to remain a Leaf for the foreseeable future.
The playoffs are the focus right now, but when contract talks escalate, a mid-range deal seems like the most likely outcome.
It is definitely an interesting point to make, however, you can never be so sure as offer sheets continue to become more prominent in the NHL.
While the Maple Leafs will be eager to keep Knies on the roster, you never know what can happen, especially with the
Mitch Marner and
John Tavares situations taking shape.
Either way, Knies is a great player and the Leafs are much better with him on the roster. Hopefully, that means he stays with the franchise.
General Manager Brad Treliving is not in an enviable position right now, and we hope he makes the right decisions come the summer.
