With trade rumors brewing, David Kampf is now threatening to terminate his contract, although the Toronto Maple Leafs have something to say about that.

David Kampf and the Toronto Maple Leafs are in a bit of a battle right now, as the former wants out of his contract with the team.
As you already know, Kampf has refused to travel with the Toronto Marlies, as he simply does not want to be subjected to being an AHL player.
The Maple Leafs have no space for him, and in the absence of a trade, Kampf would like to start fresh and see what the market really thinks of him.
Of course, this is a bit of an issue for the Toronto Maple Leafs, who have actively been trying to trade Kampf and don't want to lose him for nothing.

Toronto Maple Leafs take hard stance on David Kampf

According to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, the Maple Leafs are actively pushing back against Kampf right now. It has created a bit of an internal war, but the Leafs are holding strong.
I've heard there is pushback to terminating his contract. We'll see how things play out. But he remains on leave from AHL Toronto, and it was clear his heart wasn't in it.
It makes sense that they would take a hard line stance here. After all, no team ever wants to lose a player for absolutely nothing.
If you are a Maple Leafs fan, you probably just want this Kampf situation to be over and done with. It has contributed very little to the health of the team.
Furthermore, Kampf is making too much right now. There aren't many teams out there that would want him for that price.
Simply put, the Leafs may just have to eat the loss and move on for the betterment of the franchise as a whole. It sucks, but these things happen.
