Vincent Lecavalier Reveals he Was Traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs but the Deal Got Canceled
Tampa Bay Lightning legend Vincent Lecavalier recently revealed that the team traded him to the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2001 but the deal was ultimately canceled.
For those of you who may not know, or perhaps even just forgot, Vincent Lecavalier used to be one of the best scorers in the entire National Hockey League.
Overall, his career was a good one as he even won the Stanley Cup in 2004 with the Tampa Bay Lightning. However, at the start of his career, not all was well in Tampa.
He wasn't getting along with John Tortorella and there was this sense he was going to be traded. In fact, rumors have persisted for years that he was almost sent to the Leafs.

During today's episode of Leafs Morning Take, Lecavalier dropped a bombshell about that entire situation that quite frankly, you have to hear to believe.
Essentially, he was woken up from a nap by his agent telling him that the Leafs had traded for him. The deal included Nik Antropov, Tomas Kaberle, and Jonas Hoglund.
However, the president of the Tamp Bay Lightning caught win of the deal and immediately put a stop to it. The Maple Leafs lost out as a result.
This is one of the wildest "what-ifs" you could ever imagine and we just wish we could have seen what it would have looked like, even if it was unlikely.
Lecavalier was a dynamic player during that first half of his career and he certainly became a beloved star thanks to his Stanley Cup win.
Only time will tell what is next for Vinny as he continues to work with the Montreal Canadiens, who are attempting to make the postseason.
No matter what, it is cool to see a player of his caliber telling these stories all of these years later.
