Former NHL player Chris Simon took his own life last year at the age of 52 and according to a new report, he was diagnosed with CTE, a degenerative brain disease.
Chris Simon tragically passed away in 2024 after a long battle with mental health issues. It was reported that he died by suicide and his family had fears that he battled CTE.
As a result, the former NHL player's brain was donated to science for further testing.
It was revealed on Monday morning that Simon did, indeed, die of CTE. In fact, he was dealing with Stage 3 CTE which is absolutely heartbreaking.

According to reporter Rick Westhead, Simon's issues extended to headaches, memory loss, anxiety, paranoia, and even impulsive behaviors.
His family is understandably upset with the NHL, noting that they could be doing a lot more for players who have CTE.
The parents and sister of former NHL player Chris Simon released a statement saying that before he died by suicide last year, Simon had memory issues, lost his hearing, had daily headaches, impulsivity, anxiety and paranoia.
Linda and John Simon and Charlee Simon wrote they didn't know where to turn as they watched Chris's decline.
The Simons: «The unfortunate feeling of anger is also present due to the negligence of a professional league turning a blind eye to CTE and other significant brain injuries sustained in the sport of hockey.»
While some want to deny the realities of this disease, there is no denying that it exists and that numerous athletes are being diagnosed with it, well after they have lost their lives.
Contact sports are certainly the culprit and one has to wonder what that is going to mean for the future of hockey, football, and perhaps even boxing and MMA.
Our heart goes out to the Simon family as they continue to deal with this horrible tragedy.
