The Biggest Draft Bust in NHL History Seems to be Pursuing a New Career

Former first overall draft pick Nail Yakupov has been playing in the KHL for the last few years, although it appears as though he might pursue a new career very soon
When
Nail Yakupov was taken with the first overall pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft by the Edmonton Oilers, it was expected that he was going to have an amazing career.
However, things did not pan out that way as he ended up having a horrific NHL career. He only played in 350 games and had a total of 136 points.
After four seasons in Edmonton, the Oilers traded him away, and they were very happy to get rid of him. Yakupov would eventually play for the St. Louis Blues and the Colorado Avalanche before taking off for the KHL in Russia.
What's next for Nail Yakupov?
The forward currently plays for Omsk Avangard, and his production has been pretty solid. Last season, he had 17 goals, 21 assists, and 38 points in 43 games played.
However, it would appear as though Yakupov is angling for some sort of new gig in the entertainment world. Perhaps a career change is in order for the 31-year-old?
In the Instagram post below, you can see that the hockey player was trying his hand at singing. Given the recording equipment around him, one could say that he is looking to shift gears and try something new.
Of course, this could just be a hobby. We have no evidence to suggest he is really looking to change careers, at least not right now.
That said, a change in careers at this point in his life would not be unprecedented. Formula 1 World Champion Jacques Villeneuve infamously left racing to pursue music.
While that did not work out for him, there is no telling whether or not the results would be the same for someone like Yakupov.
No matter what, we wish him the best of luck, and we hope he is able to find some happiness.
