The Philadelphia Flyers fired head coach John Tortorella on Thursday, however, according to reporter Kevin Kurz, something else may have happened.
John Tortorella is someone who has proven to be a controversial head coach in the NHL and that has not changed over the years despite numerous firings.
Since that time, the Flyers have played one game and they ended up beating the Montreal Canadiens by a score of 6-4.
Why did the Philadelphia Flyers fire John Tortorella?
While the reasoning behind the firing seemed pretty clear cut, it appears as though this is not actually the case.
According to Flyers report Kevin Kurz, their may just be another reason for what went down. Apparently, Torts got into it with defenseman
Cam York, and this was another big reason for the dismissal.
Told from a team source that "it's fair to say" something happened between Cam York and John Tortorella in Toronto, that contributed to the coach's dismissal on Thursday morning. Was put to me that "they probably both crossed the line."
It was reported that there was no physical altercation but there was a screaming match and even
York was punished against the Canadiens.
Overall, this is not a good look for the Flyers organization, who continue to shoot themselves in the foot these days.
The fans have not had very much to cheer about and that is certainly a problem given how long it has been since a playoff appearance.
Only time will tell whether or not Tortorella ever gets another opportunity to coach in the National Hockey League.
