Former Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Kyle Dubas has made some bad decisions with the Pittsburgh Penguins and he may have just made another one.
Today, the former
Toronto Maple Leafs general manager made a bit of a head-scratching decision as he fired head coach Mike Sullivan.
Pittsburgh Penguins part ways with Mike Sullivan
Sullivan had been with the team for 10 years and was a huge reason behind their two Stanley Cup victories back in 2016 and 2017.
However, with the team struggling this year, Dubas figured it was best to just pull the plug entirely.
In a statement, the GM did note that it was a difficult decision but everyone felt like it was the right move to keep this team going.
"This was not a decision that was taken lightly, but as we continue to navigate the Penguins through this transitional period, we felt it was the best course forward for all involved."
Sullivan had two years left on his deal at the time of the firing. Additionally, he is expected to get another job really soon, with the New York Rangers being the most obvious possibility.
Ultimately, this is a decision that could seriously make the Pittsburgh Penguins a worse team, which would be disastrous for the franchise.
However, the team wanted Kyle Dubas, and now they must live with his decisions, regardless of how egregious they might be.
