Toronto Maple Leafs forward David Kampf is probably on his way out of Toronto, especially now that he is refusing to travel with the Marlies for the time being.
Yesterday, we reported that Toronto Maple Leafs forward David Kampf was refusing to travel with the Toronto Marlies as they embark on an AHL road trip.
This comes in the midst of trade rumors involving the forward. There is no place for him on the roster right now, and it feels like his time with the Leafs organization is coming to an end.
Furthermore, Kampf wants to take some time to evaluate things. Perhaps he could be looking at a career in Europe as his NHL hopes start to dissipate.
David Kampf's days in Toronto are numbered
According to a new report from Darren Dreger of TSN, the Kampf situation is about one thing and one thing only...money.
The forward has a cap hit of $2.4 million, which is simply way too much when you consider his production. Quite simply, the Maple Leafs can't afford to keep a player like that on the roster.
It's more about just getting off the money
Whether or not the Toronto Maple Leafs are actually going to trade David Kampf still remains to be seen. After all, it doesn't seem like the forward is in high demand.
You would be hard-pressed to find a team that would be willing to move viable assets for someone like Kampf. He just doesn't give you enough production.
With that in mind, these next few weeks are going to be interesting for the Leafs, who are very clearly looking to make a move as swiftly as possible.
If they cannot get a trade done, then there are going to be fans out there who will lose faith in the front office, who have been quiet to start the year.
