Gary Roberts knows a thing or two about hard work and the former Toronto Maple Leafs star recently came out with some interesting remarks one of the team's defenseman.
There are a ton of former notable Maple Leafs players who still have a voice in the media and the hockey community at large.
One of them is none other than Gary Roberts, who has become a fitness guru in retirement and there are a lot of players out there who go to him to get themselves in shape.
Overall, Roberts is a fantastic resource and he is also someone with a high-IQ for hockey who knows what it takes to be successful at the professional level.
Recently, the former NHL star was on The JD Bunkis Podcast, where he proclaimed his love for Maple Leafs defenseman, Chris Tanev.
Gary Roberts loves himself some Chris Tanev
His quote about Tanev is a strong one, noting that he believes the defenseman is what every professional hockey player should model himself after.
"He's what a true professional hockey player should be. The way he carries himself.. He's a true pro and warrior. He's an old-school warrior...The way he lives his life and the way he approaches his profession, his fitness and commitment in the off-season is one of the greatest I've seen."
This is something that a lot of Maple Leafs fans can agree with when you consider just how good Tanev has been for the team this season.
He has a net rating of +29 and his been far and away the best defenseman on the team, and yes, we're saying he is better than Morgan Rielly.
He blocks a ton of shots and if you are a Leafs fan, this makes you that much happier to see. You need a guy like that in the playoffs.
To hear Roberts say that Tanev is big on his fitness is also good to know and speaks volumes to the defenseman's commitment.
Hopefully, he sticks around in Toronto for a very long time.
