Here's How the Toronto Maple Leafs Can Clinch the Atlantic Division Tonight

With the Toronto Maple Leafs taking on the Carolina Hurricanes tonight, there is a huge opportunity in front of them and the fans want to see them execute.
All season long, the Toronto Maple Leafs have been in the hunt for the Atlantic Division and it has always felt like they were the team to beat.
Despite a late charge from the Florida Panthers and the Tampa Bay Lightning, the Leafs have remained in the lead and their play as of late has put the league on notice.
Tonight, they play the Carolina Hurricanes and if they win, there are a couple of scenarios that would give them the Division on a silver platter.
The Toronto Maple Leafs want the Atlantic Division
Essentially, if the Leafs lose in overtime or a shootout but the Lightning lose in regulation, then the Leafs will have clinched the division.
However, if the Lightning get one point and the Maple Leafs win, then they also get the division. Both teams winning or both teams losing wouldn't change anything.
The Maple Leafs can OFFICIALLY CLINCH the Atlantic Division today if either of these happen:
🔹 TBL loses in regulation + TOR gets 1+ point.
🔹 TBL loses in OVERTIME or SO + TOR wins in any fashion.
It would be their first division title since 1999-2000 (excluding the 2020-21 North Division).

The Toronto Maple Leafs have not won their division since 2000 and one can make the argument that this current Leafs team is much better than that one.
If the Leafs do win the division, then they will probably play against the Ottawa Senators in the first round, which would be very interesting to watch.
The Senators have had their number this season but you never know what might happen, the Leafs could always find their game come playoff time.
