He said that this season it got a lot worse, as he even needed to have security around in order to protect his family.
Darren Ferris is not a fan of Toronto Maple Leafs fans
According to the Toronto Sun, Marner's agent Darren Ferris is now getting involved. While speaking to the '100% Hockey' podcast, Ferris said the negativity in Toronto was too much.
Based on these comments, it feels as though Ferris has some sort of agenda against the Maple Leafs and their fans.
"At the end of every season, instead of being able to breathe and reset, he and the family were bracing for the storm," said Ferris. "The negativity, the blame, the hate, it was directed at him and spilled over to people closest to him. There was a dangerous environment, and at times, police had to be involved. When it came time to make a decision about his future, it wasn't about chasing the last dollar."
While some fans can be overbearing, it does feel as though Marner and his agent are overexaggerating things at this point.
We do feel sympathetic towards Marner and the harassment he has faced. But to paint all Leafs fans with a broad brush like this is just ridiculous.
Ultimately, the Maple Leafs are going to have to power on this season without Marner, for better or for worse.
Given everything we have heard, over the long run, this might be good for the franchise.
