New Report Suggests Mitch Marner Had Been Planning His Escape from Toronto for Over a Year

Las Vegas Golden Knights forward Mitch Marner is no longer a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs, and it appears as though he wanted it this way for months.
Throughout all of last season, there was considerable intrigue surrounding Mitch Marner and his free agency decision. Some fans had hope he would stay in Toronto, but others were sure he would leave.
Unfortunately, new information continues to leak out that suggests the Leafs never had a real chance of keeping the superstar winger on the roster.

There have been rumblings that Marner was speaking to Golden Knights players at the 4 Nations Face-Off, where he gauged whether or not it would be a good move for him.
Now, the 'Cam & Strick Podcast' is saying that Marner had plans for Vegas over a year ago. This is a huge slap in the face to Leafs fans everywhere.
Strickland said that a player told him that Marner had been talking about going to Vegas for like a year.
He also mentioned that Marner talked about Vegas at 4-Nations.

The Leafs need players who actually want to be on the team, so, quite frankly, it is good that Marner is gone. The Leafs can do much better.
While it will sting not to have that kind of production on the roster, the team needs to focus on guys who are passionate and actually want to be there.
So far, the acquisitions of Nicolas Roy and Matias Maccelli have been cool, but there is no doubt that Brad Treliving wants to do a whole lot more.
Only time will tell whether or not the Maple Leafs can fully achieve and realize that goal.
