If you are a Toronto Maple Leafs fan, then you are probably well aware of the situation involving Mitch Marner. He has the right to become a free agent on July 1st, and he is expected to exercise that right.

The relationship between the superstar winger and the Leafs is, to use Gen Z language, "cooked." After years of lackluster playoff performances and fan harassment, Marner seems to be over it.

Ultimately, there have been a lot of rumors as a result of Marner's situation, and no one really knows what to believe these days. Although many of these rumors involve the Las Vegas Golden Knights.

By now, everyone knows that Marner has the Knights at the top of his free agency wishlist. Meanwhile, the Knights have a mutual interest and would love to bring him on board.

There have also been reports that the Golden Knights tried to trade for Marner at the deadline this past season. However, according to Chris Johnston, it was the Carolina Hurricanes who always had the best chance of acquiring Marner.

Going into the offseason, both the Hurricanes and the Golden Knights will be gunning for Marner as he remains the top free agent available.

While the superstar winger has not ruled out coming back to the Leafs, it is hard to imagine a world where that actually happens.

Too much has transpired between these two parties, and it seems like there is no coming back from it, no matter how hard fans wish for that not to be true.

We will just have to wait for July 1st, which promises to be one of the most exciting Free Agency openings we have seen in quite some time.
