With free agency on the horizon, a lot has been made about Mitch Marner, the Toronto Maple Leafs, and whether or not there will be a reunion next season.
Mitch Marner has the right to become a free agent on July 1st, and based on everything we have heard over these past few weeks, he is going to exercise that right.
There have also been reports that the superstar winger has not ruled out a reunion with the Leafs. Although at this point, it really does seem very unlikely.
If Marner does leave, then the Leafs would like something in return. A sign-and-trade could be the perfect avenue for this. But again, this seems unlikely given the most recent development between both sides.
Is Mitch Marner done with the Toronto Maple Leafs?
According to Frank Seravalli, reporting on The Daily Faceoff Live, the relationship between the Leafs and their superstar is "frosty."
Simply put, neither side wants to give the other an inch. A messy divorce is in session, and it doesn't seem like it is going to end very well.

While Seravalli did acknowledge the outside chance of a sign-and-trade, it just doesn't feel like that is going to happen right now. In fact, it feels highly unlikely.
Either way, the Maple Leafs are going to have to look at the Free Agent market with a fine-tooth comb and pick out the right people for the job.
Replacing a player who gave you 75 assists and 102 points last season is not going to be very easy, but we expect general manager Brad Treliving will find a way.
Needless to say, this is a very pivotal offseason for the Maple Leafs, and fans will be watching with a bit of anxiety in their hearts.
