Throughout the Summer, the Toronto Maple Leafs had been shopping Nick Robertson and Calle Jarnkrok, and Darren Dreger has an update on these talks.
Going into the NHL regular season,
Toronto Maple Leafs fans were very curious about what would happen with guys like Calle Jarnkrok, Nick Robertson, and
David Kampf.
Until
Scott Laughton's injury, it didn't seem like either player would crack the opening night lineup. That has since changed, and yesterday, it was all but confirmed that Robertson would play on the third line, while Jarnkrok would take the fourth.
Calle Jarnkrok and Nick Robertson trade talks stall out
With all of this in mind, it should come as no surprise that the Toronto Maple Leafs would want to put a pause to all of the recent trade talks.
This was confirmed by Darren Dreger, who noted that Brad Treliving is currently looking to keep Jarnkrok and Robertson around for as long as possible.
The information I had Saturday is that Treliving isn't shopping Robertson or Calle Jarnkrok...he likes the idea of having that depth
The Toronto Maple Leafs have a ton of depth, and there is no doubt that this has been their superpower over the past year or so.
Going into this season, keeping that depth will protect the team from any injuries. That said, there are some fans out there who still think Robertson and Jarnkrok need to go.
If Robertson can take a leap and start producing at an elite level, then perhaps all will be forgiven. Tonight, the Maple Leafs take on the Montreal Canadiens in the season opener, and this will be a huge opportunity for Robertson to strike gold.
As for Jarnkrok, consistency is going to be the name of the game here. If he can put some good games together, the Leafs will appreciate that.
