Toronto Maple Leafs forward Nick Robertson is reportedly on the trading block, and as a result, the team is currently trying to think of unique options for a trade.

The Nick Robertson trade rumor saga has yet to come to a conclusion. It is one of those things that many fans are sick of hearing about, and for good reason.
However, until the team trades him, this is going to continue to be a big story. Thankfully, Elliotte Friedman has some insight into what is going on.
It was initially believed that the Leafs wanted to trade Robertson for some draft capital, as that could seriously help them at the trade deadline.
However, it now appears as though the Leafs are targeting young players from teams like the Chicago Blackhawks and the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Toronto Maple Leafs now eyeing Lukas Reichel

For instance, in a new written "32 Thoughts," Friedman suggests that the Maple Leafs inquired about Yegor Chinakhov, but the Blue Jackets were not interested in that deal.
From there, the Leafs have engaged in talks for Lukas Reichel of the Chicago Blackhawks, who was the 17th overall pick in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft.
Toronto is investigating options for Nick Robertson. At some point in the summer, they pitched a move for Yegor Chinakhov, but that wasn't to the Blue Jackets' liking. That file remains open in Columbus, however. Same with Lukas Reichel in Chicago

Reichel has 58 points in 174 NHL games; however, he has four points in five games to start the year, and it appears as though he is finally finding his stride.
Whether or not the Blackhawks end up doing this deal is something that still very much remains to be seen. Either way, it is clear that general manager Brad Treliving is working the phones.
