Toronto Maple Leafs Reach the Final Step with Jonathan Toews Despite Previous Report

One of the most intriguing free agents this summer is going to be Jonathan Toews, who is looking to make a comeback in the NHL at the age of 37.

Overall, he is a phenomenal player who will always be beloved by the fans. Whether or not he can still contribute at a high level remains to be seen.

That said, the Toronto Maple Leafs would love to have him. He would be a phenomenal third-line center, and he would provide veteran leadership in the locker room.

Yesterday, Elliotte Friedman reported that the Toronto Maple Leafs were not one of the final teams in the mix for Jonathan Toews.

However, it appears as though this is not truly the case. According to TSN's Darren Dreger, the Leafs are finalists among the Winnipeg Jets, Colorado Avalanche, and the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have a very interesting free agency coming up here. They are at a point where they need to bolster their bottom-six, and Toews does just that.

Unfortunately, the Jets and the Avalanche are tough competition. The Jets are Cup contenders and belong to Toews' hometown. Meanwhile, the Avalanche continues to be a contender with a culture of winning.

That said, the Leafs present a nice environment for Toews to succeed in, and we hope to see him in a blue and white jersey very soon.

Until then, the speculation around free agency will only continue to grow and get more and more out of hand.
