The Toronto Maple Leafs have lost five of their last six games and unfortunately, it has led to some consequences in the Atlantic Division which affects the NHL playoffs.
During this remaining stretch of the NHL season, the
Toronto Maple Leafs need to get it together before it is too late.
However, they are now at risk of being punted into the Wild Card situation and that is embarrassing for a team with as much talent as it has.
Toronto Maple Leafs fall in the Atlantic Division
Now, the Leafs are third in the Atlantic Division, which means they would play the Tampa Bay Lightning in the first round and they would be forced into a road team situation.
Meanwhile, the Ottawa Senators are four points back of third place which means a few more bad losses for the Maple Leafs and they could be forced into a really bad spot.
Per Leafs Latest on Twitter:
The Eastern Conference, specifically the Atlantic, is really tight. The Leafs managed to hold first place for a good part of the season, but that isn't the case anymore, as they sit four points behind Florida (with a game in hand), tied with Tampa, and only four points ahead of Ottawa.
At the end of the day, winning can fix everything while losing just makes it feel like the world is falling apart.
Regardless, fans are expecting a lot better from the franchise right now and after a decade of playoff failures, it is easy to see why.
Only time will tell whether or not the team can get themselves out of this funk and ride a wave into the playoffs.
