With the Toronto Maple Leafs looking to create cap space for themselves during free agency, it would appear as though two stars are wrapped up in trade rumors.

Players like Mitch Marner, John Tavares, and Matthew Knies are in the market for new contracts, so it should come as no surprise that the Leafs want some cap space.
They have just over $25 million available, which is good, but not enough to go out and get everyone they want.
Consequently, this has led to numerous theories about what the Leafs plan to do during the free agent period, and whether or not big trades are coming.

Morgan Rielly and David Kampf on the trade block

Frank Seravalli of The Daily Faceoff just unleashed his offseason trade board, and it includes two Maple Leafs stars in the Top 20.
The first of which is defenseman Morgan Rielly, who is a depreciating asset that will make $7.5 million per season all the way until 2030.
The Leafs need a puck-moving defenseman, someone who can help get them out of trouble efficiently and exiting the zone with more ease. Rielly isn't that anymore. He's been a fine playoff contributor, surprisingly enough, but he isn't an effective quarterback on the first power play unit and his game showed significant signs of slowing down this season. Should the Leafs make a move before that contract becomes onerous?

Meanwhile, the Leafs may also consider getting rid of David Kampf, who had 13 points last season and is set to make $2.4 million per season.
With a late-season injury, Kampf really faded into the background, with coach Craig Berube opting to keep him out of the lineup for most of the Stanley Cup playoffs as a healthy scratch. Now, Kampf has two years left at a number that isn't problematic, but probably still less than ideal for the Leafs. He is a quality utility player who competes, so they should be able to find a taker.

Ultimately, general manager Brad Treliving has some extremely tough decisions to make, and the fans are very curious about how all of this will play out.
At the end of the day, this is what free agency is. It's a time to fix your roster so that next season, you can be better.
