Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner is on the verge of getting the biggest contract of his life, and it seems like free agency will bring the crazies out.
Mitch Marner is easily going to be the biggest name in free agency this summer, with almost half of the NHL's teams looking to tender offers in a ploy to get a superstar winger on their roster.
Interestingly enough, there are some teams willing to break the bank and pay Marner an absurd amount of money. There are clubs with the money to spend, and with the salary cap going up by $9 million, there is an incentive to overspend.
Who will Mitch Marner sign with?
Today, James Mirtle of
The Athletic revealed that the Los Angeles Kings are thinking of giving Marner over $14 million per season. This would make him a higher-paid player than
Leon Draisaitl.
This could prove to be a match made in heaven, given the fact that the Kings are near the top of Mitch's free agency wishlist.
Today is June 9th, which means there are exactly 21 days to go before the official start of free agency. For those doing the math, this equates to three weeks.
Marner has a lot of time to think about what he wants to do next. While most believe he has already made up his mind, there is still a chance that he is thinking it over.
After all, this is not an easy decision to make. His whole family is going to have to move and uproot itself if he decides to leave Toronto.
Having said that, perhaps a change of scenery will do him and his family some good.
