Gary Bettman & the NHL Are Finally Fixing the Sport's Most Damaging Rule

NHL commissioner Gary Bettman is working on a new CBA with the NHLPA, and there is one rule that both sides are attempting to tackle, as quickly as humanly possible.
Perhaps one of the biggest problems the league is facing right now has to do with the salary cap and how it affects the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Simply put, once the postseason comes around, there is no salary cap.
In the past, teams like the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Las Vegas Golden Knights have exploited this by placing players on the Long-term injured reserve so that their salaries would not count against the cap.
This would then allow these teams to add more players and remain underneath the salary cap. Once the playoffs began, the injured player would return, and there would be no consequences.
A new NHL CBA is on the way
Well, according to Chris Johnston, it would appear as though the new CBA could be introducing a first-of-its-kind playoff salary cap to deter teams from taking advantage.
NHL/NHLPA discussing modifications that could include some kind "playoff salary cap" to prevent teams from exploiting loopholes
The Florida Panthers have been accused of taking advantage this year with
Matthew Tkachuk, who returned right on time for the first round of the playoffs.
Overall, it is one of those issues fans want to see resolved. While the league hasn't always acknowledged the LTIR exploit, this is a positive development.
Hopefully, this CBA is one that works for both the league and the players, who are seeing some truly monumental rises in revenue.
