Toronto Maple Leafs superstar Mitch Marner is closing in on a major milestone but he doesn't seem to be car after an amazing game against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Mitch Marner has been having the best season of his career and it is coming at a good time considering he is up for a contract extension in the summer.
Overall, the forward has 97 points this season with four games to go, which means he is on pace for over 100 points for the first time in his entire career.
He had a goal and two assists last night against the Tampa Bay Lightning which certainly helped him get up there in the points chase.
Mitch Marner on potentially getting his first 100 point season
After the game, Marner was asked about the potential for reaching 100 points for the first time and as you can imagine, it isn't really something he cares too deeply about.
Although he acknowledges that it would be cool, he also noted that the team's goal right now is to go out there and win the division for the first time in the Matthews, Marner, Tavares era.
I really don't care in a way...We just want to win games and try to get first in our division. If it happens, it happens. That's great.
At this stage, it is hard to discern what is next for the Maple Leafs as it pertains to Marner. His playoff performances over the years have left much to be desired.
Furthermore, the have been times when fans have wanted him to leave, but now, fans very much want him to stay.
With each point, he demands more money and things could get very complicated for the Leafs in the coming months.
Only time will tell whether or not Marner stays with the team that drafted him or makes a shocking departure to greener pastures.
