Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner is negotiating a new deal with the team and general manager Brad Treliving has been adamant about bringing him back.

Mitch Marner has 80 points in 65 games this season and for all intents and purposes, this has been a career year for him.
It could not come at a better time for the superstar considering he is in a contract year and is trying to become one of the highest-paid players in the NHL
However, he was mentioned in trade talks at the deadline with the Carolina Hurricanes looking to give the Leafs Mikko Rantanen in exchange for Marner.

Of course, we now know that Marner would not waive his no-trade clause and it led to a whole kerfuffle about whether or not the forward will re-sign in the summer.
Brad Treliving recently came out and re-iterated his desire to have the forward back on the team and while some remain skeptical, there is no doubt that fans would like to see him return.
Well, recently, Marner was asked about Treliving's comments and simply stated that his goal all along has to been to just play hockey.
Mitch Marner this morning, on Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving addressing the media on Mar. 9, saying he supports Marner 1000 percent:

"Yeah, it's great. Like I said, I'm here to play hockey with these guys. I'm excited for that."
While this is all good and well, it still leaves us with various questions about Marner and his real deal commitment to playing hockey with the Maple Leafs.
All signs are pointing to him going to free agency which would be an absolute disaster for the Leafs considering most teams could offer him a whole lot more money.
There are teams that would love to steal him and if they do, then the Leafs will have to pivot to various other free agents who aren't nearly as good.
